Spotlight on: Kristin from skirt as top!

Today we’re welcoming a special guest – Kristin, who writes over at the blog skirt as top. We got to meet Kristin at Quilt Market in Portland last May, and she’s pretty much the sweetest. Kristin’s been stitching with Dear Stella fabric, and she’s sharing a beautiful project with us today using Confetti Sparkle (shipping to stores now). Take a look!

Hi, I’m Kristin from skirt as top and I’m excited to share a project here today!  One of my all-time favorite items of clothing I’ve sewn for myself was made with Dear Stella fabric (washi two!).  I even wore it to Spring Quilt Market and said hi to the gals in the Dear Stella booth, so getting the opportunity to play with more Dear Stella designs was very fun.

I decided to sew up the new Everyday Skirt pattern by Liesl + Co. in M37 Navy from the Confetti Sparkle line.

This was such a fun fabric to sew with – loved the shimmer of the gold and the extra bit of structure the closely spaced dots gave to the quilting cotton – made it more apparel-friendly, I think.  It achieved that “fancy” quality without the sewing hassle that many more traditional apparel fabrics can give….plus, it’s washable!

I made the Everyday Skirt in a Medium and intended it to be for me, but I’m currently 25 weeks pregnant with my third child and it unfortunately looked a bit silly with my volleyball belly, so I enlisted my lovely sister-in-law to model the finished skirt instead.

Had to cinch up the waistband and shorten the hemline to flatter her more petite frame, and I think it looks great on her!

The fabric really does go perfectly with this skirt design – helps hold the a-line shape while still remaining comfortable, and the pockets sort of blend into the print, which makes them almost “secret.”  It was an easy, quick sew and I look forward to making more someday!

I hope she gets plenty of use out of this skirt through the holiday season and beyond (and then I’ll sneak over and steal it out of her closet once my baby is born and I’m back to “fighting shape,” hehe).

Thanks so much for having me here today, Dear Stella!  Feel free to come visit me over at skirt as top anytime.
