Easter’s only three weeks away, so let’s get started!

Folkwood Rabbit Pillow

SUPPLIES NEEEDED:

1/4 yard Fabric A, STELLA-SRR512-Porcelain (Scallop Dot)
3/4 yard Fabric B, STELLA-SRR752-Pink (Woodland Texture)
1/2 yard Fabric C, STELLA-SRR749-Pink (Folkwood Rabbits)
Scissors
Coordinating thread
Quilting ruler
Pins
Rotary cutter (optional)
Rotary mat (optional)
Iron

PRINT PATTERN:

Print Pattern Pieces A-H. Be sure to print the templates at actual size and use the 2″ test square to ensure accuracy. Cut out templates with paper scissors, leaving about 1/8″ of space all the way around each template piece.

Section 6H is divided across two sheets of paper. To complete the template for this section, match up the pieces using the black line as a guide, and tape to connect.

CUT BORDER AND PILLOW BACK:

Cut 2 – 6” wide x 21” tall rectangles out of fabric B
Cut 2 – 21” wide x 15” tall rectangles out of fabric C

PAPER PIECE RABBIT:

Use standard paper piecing technique to assemble blocks A-H (Note the grey blocks should use fabric A and the white blocks fabric B). The 1/4” seam allowances are marked with grey dashed line. When units are complete, trim excess fabric and paper away using the outermost dash line on each unit as a guide.

(New to paper piecing? There are lots of great online resources for this precision piecing technique, including this helpful instructional video from our friends at Quilty! We also love this tutorial from Fons & Porter, and this written guide from patchpieces.com.)

ASSEMBLE RABBIT PIECES:

For the steps below, match seam allowances and pin in place (be sure to match the edges of the rabbit). Stitch in place at 1/4”. Then remove paper from just seam allowance and press seam open.

Sew B to G
Sew F to D
Sew FD to E
Sew A to GB
Sew BG to H
Sew DFE to C
Sew A to C

Once the full rabbit panel is assembled, remove all paper.

ADD SIDE BORDERS:

Sew the 6” x 21” rectangles to the right and left edge of the rabbit panel to create a 21” square. Quilt if desired.

FINISH EDGES OF PILLOW ENVELOPE BACK:

Take the two 21” x 15” rectangles and press the top long edge of one rectangle under by 1/2″. Fold again 1/2″ and press. Repeat with the bottom long edge of the other rectangle. On both pieces, topstitch the fold down 3/8” (or close to the edge) to enclose the raw edge, finishing the hems.

SEW PILLOW ENVELOPE BACK TO PILLOW FRONT:

Place pillow front right-side up, then place the first rectangle right side down, matching unfinished edge with the top edge of pillow front. Pin in place. Lay the second rectangle right-side down on top, matching unfinished edge with the bottom of the pillow front. Pin in place.

Stitch at 1/2” all the way around the pillow edges. Trim corners and turn right sides out.

All finished! Show us your finished pillows online with #folkwoodrabbitpillow and @danicawilligdesigns @dearstellafab.
